IBT写作共分两个部分，计时五十分钟。第一篇称为综合写作“Integrated Writing”， 第二篇称为独立写作“Independent Writing”。独立写作是要求考生就某个问题写一篇感想，或就一个事件进行阐述，解释以及论证自己的观点。
准备阶段：
在开始着手准备写文章的时候，一定要明确自己的主题。一般来说考生有30分钟的时间去计划，写作以及修改文章。在着手下笔以前一定要仔细阅读题目， 切记不要写跑题。审题的时候一定要定位，概括和分类。不然将功亏一篑。例如： It has been announced that a new high school may be built in your community. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details in your answer. 当遇到这个题目的时候，先确定是support还是oppose还是二者兼顾。那么接下来的论证就是要围绕你的这个观点来展开，千万不要南辕北辙。明确自己的观点， 可以先列提纲， 实际上列提纲是写作的一个非常重要的步骤，它可以把握文章的整体思路，让你在写的时候可以有话可说，条理清晰。
下笔开写：
明确观点，列好提纲之后就要开始写了。IBT的词汇要求大概是4000—5000个词汇，当然在写作中并没有这么高的要求，在词汇方面要能做到准确灵活运用。注意动宾搭配，介宾搭配和修饰原则等。在写作中不要过分追求长句。很多考生认为长句的累加可以增加文章的文采。确实长句可以给人一种写作功底深厚的感觉，不过试想一下，一篇文章读下来长句连篇，是否会给人一种喘不过气的感觉？过犹不及，一篇文章中长短句相结合，句式多变，很容易让一篇文章看上去轻松，活泼。在文章思路方面， 可以试着归类和总结。就是多多搜集各个方面的素材，积存在脑海中，这样在考试中遇到一个方面的题目就迅速的在大脑中搜索，相信可以节省不少的时间。文章的结构安排一定要做到清晰。清晰的结构会使阅卷人留下一个好的印象。文章的段落形式一般是平衡式，倾向式和一波三折式。可以选择一个自己熟悉的格式来写。实际上多多记范文，对写作水平的提高是很有帮助的。强调句，插入语和倒装句是通往高分的三大捷径！接着上面的题目来分析一下该篇文章：
At present, few schools locate in the region where my family, friends and I live. Since the construction of a new high school would has（have） both positive and negative effects on our community, it is truly a controversial problem whether to build up a new one or not. Over all I believe that such a project should be supported and encouraged as its net effect will be beneficial to the locality. Among numerous benefit（benefits） are easy accesses to good education, excellent sports facilities as well as the contribution to the local economy.
First, for students in our locality, they can obtain high education more easily. As things stand now, the students who live（live in） our community, unfortunately, have to travel a long distance to go to school. We can always see the images that high school students ride their bicycles, tiredly, to school in the early morning, since it takes them a long time to get there. This produces much more trouble for those busy students who still have heavy work loan. Well, a nearby high school will solve this problem very well.
In addition, children in the locality can attain easy access to many useful facilities such as library, sports implements. Now, in our community, we do not possess enough facilities for our children to exercise and learn more knowledge outside the class. However, after the school’s construction is completed, children can go doing sports including football, basketball, and ping-pong, in the school playground when it is weekends, that is, when students in the school have no classes.
Moreover, the net effects of the construction of a new school contribute a lot to the economy of our region. As the school set up, more shopping centers, bookstores will arise in the region near the school which is for the convenience of the students also benefit (benefits) the dwellers in the area. The government, then, can get more taxes, since more businesses are found.
